Who We Are

We were married in 2005 after a season of long distance courtship while Marc was in medical school in Illinois and Stephanie was finishing nursing graduate school in Tennessee. We both became followers of Jesus in college through campus ministries and felt called to long-term missionary service shortly thereafter. After completing our education, God led us to Serge and Bundibugyo, Uganda where we work with a missionary team. We have been blessed with five beautiful children who keep us on our toes. Between community ministry, front door visitors, homework, meal prep, parenting, and the constant crowd of ten to twenty Ugandan children in our front yard every day, there is not a lot of down time in the Carrigan house!

Marc was born in Peoria, Illinois. He grew up in the suburbs of Chicago (Go Bears!) and then Normal, Illinois. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1999. He received a B.A. in Biology at Illinois Wesleyan University (2003) and then completed medical school at Southern Illinois University (2008). He did residency training in Family Medicine through Via Christi in Wichita, Kansas (2011) and then completed a fellowship in International Medicine with Via Christi and Galmi Hospital in Niger (2012). After Marc finished his medical training we returned to Peoria, Illinois and he began working in a teaching position with the University of Illinois medical school and Family Medicine Residency. Marc enjoys all aspects of Family Medicine, but has special interest in obstetrics, global health and ultrasound. When not at work, he enjoys running, outdoor activities, watching football, and spending time with his wife and children.

Stephanie was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her early years were spent in Clarendon, Arkansas on a family farm before moving to northwest Arkansas where she spent the rest of her childhood. She graduated from Rogers High School in 2000 and then completed a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Mississippi (2004). She then moved to Nashville, Tennessee to attend Vanderbilt University School of Nursing where she trained to become a registered nurse and completed her Master's in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She worked as a FNP from 2006-2008 in Jacksonville, Illinois and from 2008-2011 in Wichita, Kansas. She has now assumed a full-time job in the Carrigan household tending to bumps and bruises and sharing the love of Jesus with our children and their friends. She greatly enjoys cooking, baking, and gardening. When she finds a sliver of free time she enjoys reading books on parenting and Christian living.
